Rodwell to leave municipality and Jasper

With all of the transition that has occurred in the last 18 months, it’s become “the culture of the organization” to have staff step up and take on more responsibility, said Christine Nadon, manager of communications and IT.

That’s true for Rodwell who took over as acting director of environmental services, it’s true for Nadon who’s position was restructured when Balding left last year and now it’s true for Derksen, as well.

“We have a good core of municipal staff. People step up to challenges every day,” said Nadon. “That’s how we’ve made it through the last year and a half and I think we’re on our way to something really good, we’re bettering ourselves.”

One way that the municipality is moving forward is through the implementation of the Structural and Services Review that was completed earlier this year.

With Rodwell leaving and the reflection period complete for the review, decisions will start being made on the recommendations within that document.

For example, last week a posting for a director of operations—a new position that will oversee maintenance, public works and utilities—was placed on the municipal website. The deadline for applications is July 31. The successful candidate selected for the job will have the opportunity to structure that department.

Another structural change is the joining of culture and recreation and community and family services to create a community services department.

“There’s lots of room to grow within the organization right now,” said Nadon. “People wanting to step up and make a difference and do things...there’s lots of opportunity for that.”
