Representatives from several not-for-profit organizations in Jasper crowded around Ray Robinson as he handed out checks in the Robinsons Foods lobby, Jan. 31.
The store owner gave away more than $10,000, in an act of charity that has become a tradition for the grocer.
Each year Robinson sets aside a chunk of money to give away, and invites local organizations in need of cash to submit applications to get a cut.
As always, this year’s list was a diverse one, with money going to everyone from the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary to École Desrochers for its trip to Quebec.
“We try to give everyone at least something,” Robinson said, adding that it is always a pleasure to help out community organizations.
After the checks were handed out, students from École Desrochers clustered outside the store and, in excited bursts, talked about their trip.
They explained they have already planned a raffle to help raise money, but that the donation from Robinsons will help get them to Quebec.
Alison Mason, from the Petit Caillou preschool, said the money the school received will help it build a craft cupboard for the kids, as well as help send them on field trips throughout the year.
“We just want to give [Robinson] a big thank you for his support,” she said.
