Proposed apartment would improve rental conditions

Dear Editor,

Having lived here for over 30 years, I find it puzzling that a housing shortage continues. The completion of Cabin Creek hillside, Stone Mountain, three housing co-ops, new duplexes and two apartment blocks, among some other developments, has not alleviated this housing shortage.

The proposed development of a 10-suite apartment is another step in providing tenants with improved conditions. Most of these renters are likely relocating from dated basement suites, and as they are a valuable component of our community, they should be entitled to a choice of rental units.

I recall the outcry and hullabaloo when a single-family home was taken down to build two duplexes in the 300 block of Bonhomme St. The proponents indicated at that time they would be constructing premium housing. Look at that development now and speak to their neighbours. The property is well maintained and there haven’t been issues with the tenants.

Tenants do not deserve the negativity that has been placed upon them. I support the rezoning of 120 and 122 Connaught Dr.
