Jasperites had an opportunity to get up close and personal with a variety of farm animals during a pop-up petting zoo, June 23.
Held annually in Centennial Park, children got to hold rabbits, chickens and gerbils and pet some of the larger animals, including a cow and donkey.
“The farmer comes every year with 35 animals,” said Suzanne Villeneuve, a Grade 5-6 teacher from École Desrochers and organizer of the event.
“When we first started, seven or eight years ago, we charged people, but now it’s so popular that we have enough donations to make it free for everyone,” she said.
Due to its overwhelming popularity this year, Villeneuve said she plans to hold the event over two days next year, on June 21 and 22, 2016.
