From May 29 to July 15, Highway 16 West is being repaved, from approximately the Meadow Creek Bridge to Decoigne Road. Portions of the Miette Hot Springs Road will also be repaved during this time, once the construction crew has completed work on the highway.

The Government of Canada is investing heavily in transportation infrastructure throughout Parks Canada’s protected places. The repaving of Highway 16 West and Miette Road will ensure these crucial transportation corridors remain safe for motorists, and it is also an important driver of the Canadian economy.

The work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, excluding statutory holiday long weekends, to minimize the impact this work will have on motorists and visitors.

Delays may vary depending on traffic volume, but are expected to be up to 20 minutes as temporary road closures are necessary to ensure motorist safety. Arrangements are in place to allow safe and timely passage of emergency vehicles through the work site.

Bridge Improvements Update

  • Work on the Miette Bridge (93 North) repairs began on April 14 and is expected to be completed ahead of the May 20 schedule.
  • The Moberly Bridge deck renailing is anticipated to begin by May 1 and will be completed within two to three days.
  • The Cavell Bridge replacement, originally planned to begin on May 15 will now begin on May 11 due to the early availability of the construction crew. As a result, Cavell Road will be closed to all use, including pedestrian and cyclists, as of May 10.
