Parks Canada manages one of the finest and most extensive systems of protected natural and cultural heritage areas in the world.

National parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas represent the very best that Canada has to offer and Jasper National Park is no exception.

Each year, Parks Canada holds a public session to update Canadians on the progress, accomplishments and challenges in implementing the Jasper National Park Management Plan.

The 13th Annual Public Forum will be held at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre on Wednesday, March 16th at 7 p.m.

The forum, which is held each year in Jasper and every other year in Edmonton, is a key action item in the management plan to foster open management and encourage innovation. It provides a venue to involve Canadians in park decision-making and identify future priorities.

This year’s event will include an overview of the 2014-15 season from new Field Unit Superintendent, Alan Fehr, followed by a question and answer session.

There will also be three presentations about species at risk, mountain pine beetle, and visitor infrastructure investment. Members of the public will be able to discuss these initiatives with Parks Canada specialists after the presentations.

The Federal Infrastructure Initiative opens the door to new opportunities for Jasper. This unprecedented investment will enhance the diverse experiences in the park as it prepares for the next generation of visitors. Ensuring that visitors and Jasper residents alike get timely and accurate information as the maintenance work progresses is a priority for Parks Canada.

The event will also be an opportunity for Jasper residents to pick up their resident vehicle passes for 2016-17. Don’t forget to bring along your vehicle registration.

For Canadians unable to attend the event, the 2015 Annual Report will be available on the Jasper National Park website.
