The Jasper Artists Guild has set up shop in the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives.
The collective of Jasper artists has taken over the Showcase Gallery, decking it out with a selection of new artwork from its members.
Some of the featured works includes large pieces by both Rory MacDonald and Andrew Gudsalve. Complimenting them is one of Rico Satoko’s paper lanterns, and a pair of striking paintings from Jessy Dion.
Also featured is a series of small pieces by Claude Boocock, showcasing her continued fascination with ravens.
Alan Butler, a member of the guild, said that the gallery is the result of a collaboration between the museum and JAG.
The museum donates the space to the guild free of charge, taking only a small commission on the art that sells. In return, any members of the public who visit JAG’s gallery at 620A Connaught Dr. are directed to the museum to check out more artwork.
Butler calls it a win-win situation, with JAG getting an opportunity to showcase more of its artists work, and the museum getting increased traffic.
“We really appreciate the museum making that space available to us, and if we can help the museum to raise funds it’s a great thing for the community,” he said.
“I’m really into art, and as long as I can help the community experience that in any way I’m happy,” he said.
Musings at the Museum opened Jan.16, and will occupy the Showcase Gallery until March 30.
