Former École Desrochers teacher Sylvain-Henri Simard returned to Jasper last week as an artist in residence, teaching elementary aged students songs about Canada's northern territories and even penning a brand new song for his old school.

The students sang songs about northern lights and polar bears and learned that in Nunavut there is another official language called Inuktitut. After a week of musical play, the students welcomed their parents for a show in the music room.
Simard, who has a bachelor's degree in musical education, was welcomed to the school as part of the annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie celebration.
