Marmot Basin will soon begin offering skiers and snowboarders an opportunity to enjoy the mountain after the lifts close.

Beginning in early February, the mountain intends to host après skiing events at the Eagle Chalet, located halfway up the mountain.

“It’s an experience I think people would really enjoy,” said Brian Rode, vice president of marketing and sales for Marmot.

“It’s a special experience to be on the mountain at the end of the day, after the other skiers have left, and watch the sun slowly go down.”

Dave Gibson, president and CEO of Marmot, initially made the announcement during a private event for local business owners and the media at the chalet in December.

Details about exactly what will be offered are still being finalized, but according to Rode the intention is to open the chalet for both private functions and to the general public.

“Our vision is to offer people appetizers and drinks followed by dinner and then a ski down from mid-mountain,” said Rode, explaining people will have to sign up and make a reservation ahead of time.

Built in 1964, the Eagle Chalet is the oldest building on the mountain and still retains its log cabin feel with a stone fireplace, large picturesque windows and historic photos and memorabilia from skiers who frequented Marmot in the early days.

In 1996, the chalet underwent a major renovation adding a full bar, kitchen and other updates.

“The room itself is still the same room in terms of square footage,” said Rode, adding that it is 1,800 square feet and can host 76 people.

Dana Hospitality, which took over Marmot’s food and beverage services this year, will provide the food and staff for the events.

“Dana Hospitality is eager to do this and prepared to put together a great experience for people at mid-mountain,” said Rode.

“It’s a unique experience and I think it’s going to be a great opportunity.”
