Local singers, dancers, pianists and stand-up comedians took to the stage, Feb. 11, and proved without a doubt that Jasper’s got talent.
The 16 competitors in the annual talent competition ensured the judges had a tough job at the end of the evening. But, even so, Jayden Madsen, Monika Schaefer, Alys Thomas and Andrew Thomas ultimately managed to come to a consensus when they picked the 2014 winners.
First to be named were the honourable mentions: the Golla brothers, Simon, Severin and Sebastian, who performed a song together, led by Simon on piano, and Jaqui and Kiara Davis, who, because of a dead iPod, ended up performing Abba’s “Mama Mia” a cappella.
Taking home the prize for Best New Talent was a shocked and excited Kate Sabellano, who sang Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb.”
And finally, the top three competitors were stand-up comedian Ryan Davis, in third place, singer and guitarist Tim Champagne, in second, and Hinton’s Sydney Waddell, who took home the first place trophy.
Waddell, who performed last, sang “I See Fire,” an Ed Sheeran song from the film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The Jasper’s Got Talent competition is an annual event that began in 2012. The funds raised go toward the Jasper Junior/Senior High School Band, helping the students to stay up to date with new instruments and digital sound equipment.
