For the third time in 10 months, two six- to eight-week-old pointed cats were abandoned at the school, Oct. 3, and they are believed to be from the same mother as the previous two litters.

The latest kittens, one male and one female, are suffering from the same ailments as the kittens found in December and March. All of the kittens have been found with feline upper-respiratory disease and ear mites, and they all have light coats, with black fur on their faces, ears and tails.

Jasper Bylaw is asking the public’s assistance in identifying the person or persons responsible for the cats and has provided a description of the man who seen depositing them at the school last week.

According to an account from a teacher, the man is about 60 years old, 5’6 and of slender build. He was wearing a jean jacket and jeans.

Community Peace Officer Matt Hogan said bylaw’s intention isn’t to lay charges, but to get the mother spayed.

“Janet [Jones, of the Jasper Veterinary Clinic,] will spay the mother for free if he comes forward,” said Hogan. “We’ve got to do something to solve the problem.”

If you have any information, you’re encouraged to contact Hogan by email at [email protected] or by phone at 780-852-5514.

The kittens are currently at the vet clinic being treated for feline upper-respiratory disease and ear mites. Once they are healthy, the bylaw department will look for foster homes.

Anyone interested in welcoming one of the kittens into their home is invited to call Hogan.

In the meantime, he encourages all cat owners to get their pets licensed.
