“Look, that’s me!”
Kids were buzzing around the Jasper Legion, April 19, showing off the art they created over the last six months in their weekly after school program with Madame Vanessa Martin.
The art classes began in November and culminated with the exposition, featuring self portraits, clay sculptures, hanging pendants, still life drawings, as well as observation drawings of a rabbit that visited the classroom.
Martin said she developed the program to provide a creative outlet for the kids—most of whom are in Grade 2.
“For them it’s intuitive,” she said. “That’s what I love about working with them—they have freedom that we don’t.”
Each class the students created a new piece of art, many of which were hung on the walls along with a story about the assignment, explaining to parents and visitors how each piece of art came to be.
