After two days of intense competition, the Jasper River Dragons returned home with four provincial medals last month.
Jasper’s Junior Lifeguard Club sent 10 of its 40 athletes to the TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove, March 21, to compete in the lifesaving provincial championships against 15 other teams and 250 other athletes.
In the girls 14-15 4x50 metre Obstacle Relay, Jasper came out on top, bringing home the gold medal. On the team was Pascale Robinson, Emma Glover, Isabelle Glover and Cailyn Sherlow.
In the 4x25 metre girls 12-13 Manikin Relay, Hope Deagle, Mistaya Duhamel, Emma Glover and Mikaela Robinson finished in second, earning the team a silver medal.
Colten Thomas also brought home silver, for his performance in the boys nine and under 50 metre Obstacle Swim Tow with Fins, and he garnered a bronze medal for the 50 metre Obstacle Swim.
Overall, the River Dragons’ finished in 10th place out of 15 teams.
Coaching the team this year was Jeremy Todgham, Lara Wells, Kiana Sillence and Cailyn Sherlow. JoAnn Sherlow, Mikyla Sherlow and Zac Ruttiman also appeared as guest coaches throughout the season.
