Following a dramatic drumroll, Sept. 24, the Jasper Pride Festival Society announced the theme for its 2015 festival.
Instead of drag queens, next year’s event will feature ice queens, as the theme of the sixth annual event is “Wicked White Winter”.
Richard Ruppell, the society’s festival director, said the theme is “all encompassing of the wonderland that is our Jasper.”
The announcement concluded the society’s first-ever annual general meeting and was met with applause from the 25 people in attendance.
The 2015 Jasper Pride Weekend kicks off March 20 and will carry through until March 22.
Like in previous years, the organizers hope to present a bigger and better festival, with additional events taking place throughout the weekend, including a burlesque show and karaoke with drag queens—and that’s just on Friday night.
As well as the big announcement, the society—which formed last year—also elected its new board.
Returning as co-chairs are Susan McCarthy and Uwe Walter.
Cody Murdock will assume the role of treasurer; Lynn Wannop of secretary; Richard Ruppell of festival director; Jordan Tucker of volunteer director; Mychol Ormandy of community relations director; and Jörg Michel of marketing director.
The society’s first fundraising event will take place at the Jasper Legion on Nov. 29.
