The Jasper Curling Club held its annual ladies bonspiel over the weekend, bringing together 16 teams for a weekend of high-quality curling.

The event is the highlight of the season for many curlers in the region, and according to Jasper’s Lee Chorley, this year’s Mardi Gras themed tournament didn’t disappoint.

Chorley said that it was wonderful to see the camaraderie between all the participants, and praised the level of curling that the teams brought to the ice.

Lighting up the “A” finals was the Jenkyns rink, which blew away its Jasper competitors. The Karpo rink had a tough time finding its weight the day of the finals, and Jenkyns never seemed to miss a shot. Jenkyns leapt to a five-point lead after the first end, and by the fifth, Karpo called the game early.

By contrast, the “B” and “C” finals were nail biters, with both games locked in dead ties heading into the final eight stones. In the end, Jasper’s Dew rink won out over its Hinton opponents in the “B” finals, and Hinton’s Durand rink edged out Marquis from Jasper in the “C” finals.

Leanne Muller was one of the participants in the tournament, and she called it the best bonspiel she has ever attended.

“The Jasper Curling Club is a class act. What really makes the difference between this club and others is the people.

“The curling club has the friendliest group of people I have met in a bonspiel yet. They go out of their way to make the visitors feel welcome and make sure they have a good time.”
