The Jasper Freeride Team walked away from the ATB Provincials with seven podium finishes last month.
The competition was held at Mount Norquay and saw athletes from across the province. Jasper’s skiers were well represented and pulled out all the stops, landing four gold medals, two silver and one bronze.
The freestyle team has about 40 athletes in total from around the region. They range in age from nine years old to 17.
Most skiers don’t compete until they’re 12 or above, although the team currently has two skiers who are under 12 that have competed. One of those skiers is Ezra Jenkins, who has accompanied the team to national competitions.
During the provincials last month, Jenkins faced off against M14 skiers in the moguls competition and came out on top. Jenkins was joined by Tyson Bashforth, Alison Brown and Olivia Krushell in earning gold medals for the team. Jonah Jenkins, Ezra’s brother, and Caitlin McInnis earned the silver medals and Cameron Brown won the bronze.
