Wallace snags medal in the jungle
Jasper’s intrepid mountain biker, Cory Wallace, had yet another podium finish Nov. 19, when he completed Sri Lanka’s Rumble in the Jungle—a race that “takes riders from hot and humid jungles, through mountain hugging tea plantations and across the island’s highest plateau.”
Wallace finished the 276 kilometre, four stage event in 13 hours, 37 minutes and 48 seconds, coming in about 40 minutes behind the first place rider, Ismael Ventura.
Wallace is a professional mountain biker, riding for Kona. In 2014, he was the Canadian Marathon Champion, he finished first in the Tour de Timor, Mongolia Bike Challenge, Australian Marathon Series and MTB Himalaya. He was also second at Singletrack 6 and Crocodile Trophy.
In a comment to Cycle.lk, Wallace said “It is really hard to find any negatives getting to spend another week in the tropics while Canada is settling into a deep freeze for the winter.”
Marmot celebrates Sports Day
On Nov. 29, in recognition of RBC Sports Day, Marmot Basin will be offering a free lesson to people who have never before donned a set of skis or a snowboard.
“This is a great opportunity to introduce people to the world of skiing and snowboarding,” stated Colin Borrow, director of snow sports, in a press release.
The free Discover package is available to anyone over the age of six who hasn’t skied or boarded before.
Temporary chlorine increase in water
If you’ve noticed an increased flavour of chlorine in the town’s water since last Friday, don’t worry, it’s not here to stay.
The Municipality of Jasper, in association with Alberta Environment, was recalibrating the chlorine system for the town’s water. While the work was being done, the taste of chlorine may have been more prevalent, as chlorine levels were temporarily increased.
Despite the increase, according to the municipality, the water was and is safe to drink.
