RCMP investigating thefts

Jasper RCMP is seeking assistance to identify a man who stole scratch tickets and cash at knife point, Oct. 25.

The man entered the Mac’s Convenience Store around 7:40 p.m. wearing a hoodie and face covering and was armed with a knife. After stealing the lottery tickets and an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot.

The Mac’s employee was not harmed during the incident.

There are similarities between this robbery and a theft that occurred on Oct. 19 at the Petro Canada. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the same suspect may be responsible for both incidents.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance identifying the person responsible. If you are able to identify the individual or have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Jasper RCMP at (780) 852 4421 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The team will stop in Jasper on their way to Prince George where they’ll play back-to-back games against the Cougars on Friday and Saturday night.

The Oil Kings will practice in Jasper at 10 a.m.

Swimming pool closed at Aquatic Centre

The main swimming pool at the Jasper Aquatic Centre closed due to a mechanical failure earlier in the week and could remain closed until Nov. 6.

According to Jeremy Todgham, the fitness and aquatic manager, parts have been order and if all goes as planned the pool will be back up and running before the weekend.

The closure does not affect the wade pool, hot tub or steam room, which remain open. For updates stay tuned to the municipality’s website at www.jasper-alberta.com or call the pool at 780-852-3663.
