Pride-full weekend
The Jasper Pride Festival is back for its sixth year, beginning today, March 19, with a screening of The Case Against 8 at the Crimson Jasper at 7 p.m.
The film looks behind the scenes at the fight for marriage equality in the United States and Worldwide. Following the film, the Jasper Brewing Company will launch its first ever Wicked White Weissbier, created to match this year’s theme of Wicked White Winter.
The taps will flow beginning at 9:30 p.m.
The festival continues throughout the weekend with everything from guided ice walks to a burlesque show and a drag show and dress-up party.
For a full list of events, check out the back of this week’s paper or visit www.jasperpride.ca.

Screening for life
Alberta Health Service is hosting a cancer screening clinic in Jasper next month.
Women may be eligible for a screening mammogram and a Pap test, and both men and women may be eligible for a home colorectal cancer screening kit.
The screenings will take place from April 8–15.
To book a mammogram, call 1-800-667-0604, or to inquire about Pap testing or home colorectal screening kits, call 780-852-4759.
Alberta Health Services is seeking volunteers for the clinic. If you’d like to lend a hand, call 1-800-667-0604.

Successful canvas for charity
After knocking on doors during the month of February, a group of about 20 Jasperites raised $4,027.75 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, with the top canvasser collecting $550.
Leo Arsenault, the zone leader for Jasper, has been canvasing for the foundation for the last seven years.
He extended his thanks to the volunteers who took the time to join him in canvasing the town and to the community members who were generous enough to give.
“From the Heart and Stroke Foundation, thank you all.”

Turkey fundraiser
For the 40th year in a row, the Jasper Junior/Senior High School Band will hold its turkey dinner fundraiser, March 19.
The popular event at the Jasper Activity Centre is a chance for Jasperites to chow down on a plate of succulent turkey with all the fixings, while listening to the musical stylings of the senior band. But it also acts as one of the band’s biggest fundraisers of the year.
Serving begins at 5 p.m. and carries on until 8 p.m. Tickets are available at Tekarra Color Lab, More Than Mail, Buffalo Betty’s Gifts and at the door.
