Chamber gathering Tour of Alberta feedback

The Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce is hosting an informal meeting to garner feedback from businesses on how the Tour of Alberta may have affected them.

The meeting will be held at the Robson House on Oct. 8 between 3 and 6 p.m.

Members of the executive and board will be on hand to listen and there will also be a toonie bar from 5 to 6 p.m.

Communities in Bloom to announce winners

Communities in Bloom will announce the winners of this year’s competition in Kamloops this weekend.

Jasper is a finalist in the international challenge and has been nominated for three outstanding achievement awards for community involvement, heritage conservation and winter life.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and enhancing green spaces.

This is Jasper’s third time competing at the international level, after winning at the provincial and national levels in the past.

Although Jasper has received top marks in its category for the past two years, both years it has ultimately lost to other communities.

In 2014, Jasper placed second behind Castlegar, B.C., which had the most points and won the top prize in the “small category.” This year Jasper is competing in the “medium category.”

Judges passed through Jasper in July and rated the community on its tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and floral displays, while also considering the community’s involvement within each category.
