You may have noticed a slight change in this week’s issue of the Fitzhugh. Beginning this week we have hired a new printer, and with that change has come a change in format.

This new format allows us to print colour images more vibrantly and accurately. It will also put an end to the alignment issues we sometimes faced on our colour pages in the past.

Although the physical size of our paper has decreased slightly, we will frequently offset this with more pages.

The Fitzhugh is excited for the opportunities our new format offers, and we hope our readers will enjoy the new look.

‘Slight return’ for the smalls

Thirteen years has passed since the smalls went on their Goodbye Forever Tour, and now they’re back with what they’re calling a “slight return.” And that return includes a sold out show at the Jasper Legion, Nov. 13.

The smalls—who refer to themselves with a lowercase ‘s’—are an Edmonton hard rock band, full of heavy metal, punk, jazz and country beats, who formed in 1989.

The band, which includes popular Canadian country singer Corb Lund, released its self-titled, self-produced debut album in 1990 on cassette. Over the course of the band’s 12-year lifespan it released three more albums, their last in 1999.

The smalls returned to the stage for the first show of their “slight return” Aug. 30 and have been on the road ever since. But, according to their website, there’s no telling what will come next, as each individual band member has been busy in the last 13 years and each has their own life to live.

Festive skate helps families

Santas Anonymous is hosting its first event of the season Saturday, Nov. 8. Kids of all ages are invited to the Jasper Arena to Skate with Santa.

The annual fundraiser, which runs from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. includes Christmas music, candy canes and a special appearance by Jasper the Bear.

Santas Anonymous organizes events throughout the holiday season to raise funds to aid more than 50 local families, providing them with gifts and food hampers before Christmas.
