New face at Palisades Centre

Long-time Jasper Junior/Senior High School teacher, Barb Schmidt is taking on a new role as Palisades Education Liaison, beginning Feb. 1.
Schmidt has been teaching in Jasper since 2001. In her new position she will be responsible for coordinating the educational programs at the Palisades Stewardship Education Centre.
The Palisades Centre was developed as a joint partnership between the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division and Parks Canada to offer experiential educational opportunities in the park.
The centre offers education opportunities that develop critical thinking skills, all while teaching the current best practices in park stewardship and outdoor safety.
Schmidt is replacing James Bartram—an integral person in the creation of the centre. Bartram left his position last fall to pursue new career opportunities.

Workshop rescheduled

The Jasper Municipal Library’s healthy eating workshop with Registered Dietician Janice Yeaman is now on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 1:30 p.m.
Yeaman is teaching folks how to nourish their bodies.
The event, which runs from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., is free to everyone.
Yeaman encourages participants to come prepared with questions on nutrition and healthy eating.

A toast to Robbie Burns

Robbie Burns, the Scottish poet and lyricist, was born 256 years ago.
To celebrate his birth, Arts Jasper has organized its annual Robbie Burns Night on the day of his birth, Jan. 25.
The event, which includes a haggis dinner, scotch and a piper, is at the Other Paw Bakery.
There are only 50 tickets up for grabs, so if you’ve got a hankering for a traditional Scottish feast, it’s best to purchase your ticket soon. They’re on sale at the bakery.
