Marmot opening

As of Tuesday evening, Marmot Basin was anticipating a Nov. 14 season opening. But, depending on the snow, it could be Nov. 15 before the lifts are running and anxious skiers and boarders are able to hit the slopes.

In a Facebook update, Marmot asked its loyal patrons to “bear with us while we get another 24 hours of snowmaking under our belt at which point we will be better able to make this call.”

Watch the Fitzhugh’s Facebook page for an update, and in the meantime, get your skis and boards waxed and ready to rock.

Improved winter road reports

Travelling to Jasper this winter just got a little bit easier, as 511 Alberta is now providing road reports for Jasper National Park.

Up-to-date reports are available by phone and online and will provide motorists with the conditions of Maligne Lake Road, Marmot Road and Whistlers Road, among others.

“The addition of the Jasper roads to 511 Alberta makes a great service even better,” stated Wayne Drysdale, minister of transportation, in a press release. “Having access to road reports for Jasper National Park will help drivers make informed travel decisions when heading to the mountains this winter.”

The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To access the reports, dial 5-1-1 in Alberta or visit www.511.alberta.ca or follow @511Alberta on Twitter.
