Jasper to host provincial baseball tournament
Local baseball fans can get ready to enjoy some of the best junior ball games available when the Jasper Baseball Association steps up to the plate this weekend. Starting July 5, the Jasper Bears Mosquito and Peewee baseball teams will host the provincial tournament throughout the weekend.
The local teams will be joined by seven peewee division teams from around the province. This will be the second time the Jasper division has hosted the provincial tournament, which volunteers say, has doubled in size. In order to accommodate this the association is seeking softball/baseball players, businesses and volunteers to help out with the event. For more information contact Kathleen 852-4696 or Kelly 852-8634 for details.
Ten years of safety
Jasper received special recognition from the Alberta Safety Codes Council last month.
According to Fire Chief Greg Van Tighem, the award recognized the municipality for “ten years of dedicated service” to the council.
Jasper was one of only three municipalities to receive the award this year.
Jasper is an accredited municipality under the Alberta Safety Codes Council, which provides the town with guidelines for its quality management plan and inspections.
Van Tighem said he plans to frame the award and hang it in the Emergency Services Building.
The council exists to promote uniform safety standards in the province of Alberta, under the Safety Codes Act.
Secret Garden Tour set for July 12
Eight private gardens will be open to the public for one day, as part of the Jasper Artists Guild’s annual Secret Garden Tour. The self-directed tour is set for July 12 , and showcases some of Jasper’s most spectacular blooms, shrubbery, pathways and yard art. The event will also feature bonus gardens as well as choral and instrumental music.
Tickets for the tour are currently available at the Jasper Public Library library for $20. Participants are given a map and brochure with a brief description about each garden when they purchase a ticket. There will be a refreshment station in one of the gardens and artists from JAG will be “creating” in many of the gardens.
Proceeds from the event will support the Friends of the Jasper Public Library.
