Trans Mountain review extended

The National Energy Board has extended its review of the proposed Trans Mountain pipeline—which runs through Jasper National Park—by seven months.

Originally, the NEB was supposed to complete its review and submit it to the federal government by July 2, 2015, but the organization requires more information from Kinder Morgan, so that deadline has been extended.

The extension comes after the NEB requested further study of the pipeline’s route through Burnaby Mountain, in Burnaby, B.C.

The new deadline for the organization to complete its review is Jan. 25, 2016.

Phone scam pops up in Jasper

Scam artists have recently targeted some Jasper residents.

The grift comes in the form of a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of Microsoft. They claim to need to repair their mark’s computer, and ask for passwords that will give them access to the person’s machine.

Once they have that access, they can steal any information stored on the computer.

A Microsoft representative said the company never contacts customers to ask for access to their computer, and anyone receiving such a call should ignore it.

Jam night returns

Beginning tonight, July 17, the Jasper Legion will once again have open jam nights each Thursday beginning at 8 p.m.

The weekly evening of collaboration and live local talent will be hosted by Jasperite Koltin Rae.

Everyone is welcome, and musicians are encouraged to bring their favourite instruments to get in on the jam.
