JNP public forum

Parks Canada is hosting its annual public forum Oct. 15 and is inviting the community to attend.
The forum, held at the Jasper Activity Centre, will include updates on the projects Parks has been working on over the course of the year.
Supt. Greg Fenton gave a teaser of what’s to come during the Sept. 9 general meeting of the Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce.
Topics will include Maligne Tours’ proposal to develop at Maligne Lake, the national Red Chair Program, Jasper National Park’s caribou conservation efforts, Marmot Basin’s 2013 Long Range Plan and the debris flow at Mount Edith Cavell this summer, just to name a few.
The forum will take place from 6:30–9:30 p.m., with discussion sessions taking place between 8 and 9 p.m. On the table will be the Maligne Valley Implementation Strategy.
There will also be a public forum in Edmonton Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel.

Working through violence

The Yellowhead Women’s Shelter is coming to Jasper, beginning Oct. 15, to work with women who have experienced violence in their relationships, whether it’s with their partner, family or friends.
Cara Kulbacki, the shelter’s family violence prevention coordinator, will be hosting the weekly group until Dec. 17.
“The group is a closed group,” she said, noting that the people who show up on Oct. 15 are the people who are welcome to participate for the 10 weeks.
“We do that to build trust,” she said, noting that she will be talking with the women about their family lives and how they developed into the adults they are today, and working with them to build their self-esteem and assertiveness.
The meetings will take place at the Jasper Adult Learning Centre. To sign up, contact the Yellowhead Women’s Shelter at 780-865-4359. Each meeting will have snacks and childcare provided.

Photography exhibit at Coco’s

Local photographer Alisen Charlten will showcase her latest work in a brand new exhibit, “Create Connect Explore” beginning tonight, Oct. 9, at Coco’s Cafe.
The show will include works created with digital layering in multiple exposure styles.
The community is invited to peruse Charlten’s work during the opening from 7 to 9 p.m., as well as in the coming months, as it lines the walls of the cafe.
