Grizzly warning and trail closure
Parks Canada issued a precautionary bear warning for the townsite and part of Pyramid Bench, June 2, in order to trap and move a grizzly bear that has been frequenting the townsite.
To carry out the relocation, Parks closed the lower portion of Trail 8a, near the intersection of Miette Avenue and Bonhomme Street, and set up a trap.
As of Wednesday morning, the closure and warning were still in place.
Parks advises trail users to carry bear spray and to respect the closure.

Accused drug dealers appear in court
Two accused drug dealers made their second brief appearance in Jasper Provincial Court May 28, requesting that the Crown share its evidence—as is their right.
Thomas Donald Featherstone, 33, and Amanda Rae Levere, 24, were arrested April 4 after the RCMP executed a search warrant on a local residence and found GHB, MDMA, marijuana and magic mushrooms.
The two are facing four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.
The Crown indicated that their files show the evidence was sent on April 28 to Laurie Rodger, who was acting as duty council. But Rodger said he hadn’t received it.
Judge D. C. Norheim directed the Crown to send it again to Rodger by no later than June 18 and asked that Rodger share it with Featherstone and Levere, who have yet to hire a lawyer.
Directing his comments to the accused, Norheim then stressed the severity of the charges against them.
“These appear to be serious charges. Take them seriously. The onus is on you to follow up.”
Featherstone and Levere will appear in court again on June 25.
Welcoming party for newcomers
In an effort to welcome Jasper’s new seasonal workers and to show them all the community has to offer, the Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce and Jasper Community Team have organized Jasper Works.
The event is June 8 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Champs in the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre and includes free dinner, prizes and music from Jasper’s own DJ Frazzle.
Jasper Works is dubbed as an event to find out what’s going on in Jasper and to meet new people.
