Glacier Skywalk gets national recognition

Brewster Travel’s Glacier Skywalk is among one out of 12 recipients across Canada to receive the 2016 Governor General’s medal in architecture.

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts announced the winners May 24. The biennial awards celebrate outstanding design in recently completed projects by Canadian architects.

“It is a great honour and privilege for the Glacier Skywalk to be nationally recognized for its incredible architecture and brilliant engineering,” said Dave McKenna, president of Brewster Travel Canada, in a press release.

Governor General of Canada David Johnston said in the same press release that each recipient of the medal has distinguished themselves as “visionary Canadian architects”.

“They have designed spaces where communities are forged, memories are enshrined and identity is created in built form. Few architects are able to realize their philosophies so fully in practice and in such diversity of project type and geography,” Johnston said.

The Glacier Skywalk is now open for its third season

Gardening guru to visit Jasper

Canada’s gardening guru, Mark Cullen, will share his insight and expertise with local gardening enthusiasts, May 31.

Jasper won an evening with Cullen after receiving the community involvement outstanding achievement award during the 2015 International Communities in Bloom competition.

Cullen is best known for his weekly CTV morning show segments, his on-line posts and several best-selling gardening books.

The free gardening affair will be held at the Jasper Activity Centre on May 31 at 7 p.m.

The Jasper Municipal Library is looking for volunteers to help it move into its new location at the Library and Cultural Centre.

The library will be closed as of May 28 to allow renovations to begin at the arena, however, the book-drop will remain open at its current location.

The library will reopen at its new location, 500 Robson St., during the week of June 13.

For more information or to sign-up as a volunteer contact 780-852-3652 or [email protected].
