Folk festival releases initial line-up
Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra is the Jasper Folk Music Festival’s Friday night headliner.
The news was announced June 15.
Red Haven, Sam Spades and a Battle Royale winner are also scheduled to perform on the opening night, with one more artist still to be announced.
On Saturday, Doug McNarney, Joal Kamps, The Whisky Jerks, Matt Patershuk, Birds Of Bellwoods, The Wardens, The Pick Brothers Band and Samson’s Delilah are set to play.
Saturday’s headliner is still to be announced.
The festival runs from Sept. 11 to 13.
This year organizers are working with a $20,000 budget, $10,000 less than last year.
“If there’s one thing I’d like to see, I’d like to see more faces out there,” said Matt Cushing, music coordinator for the festival.
Fatal collision shuts down highway
A fatal collision on Highway 93 killed a woman and sent a man to hospital via air ambulance, June 12.
The accident shut down the highway in both directions about 12 kms north of the Saskatchewan River Crossing around 2:30 p.m. Police reopened the highway around 7:30 p.m.
According to the RCMP, a vehicle heading northbound crossed into the southbound lane glancing off an oncoming vehicle before hitting a second vehicle head on.
Police have not released their identities, but confirmed the man and the woman were both in their 50s.
RCMP seek vending machine bandits
The RCMP are looking for two men who allegedly broke into several vending machines in Jasper in April.
According to police, security cameras caught two Caucasian males breaking into a vending machine and steeling the cash inside.
Police believe the men are in their late teens or early twenties and may be responsible for similar break ins in Jasper in recent weeks.
Police said the suspects were wearing a black winter coat and a sweater with a white and black trim.
