Vena makes first court appearance
Theodore Vena made his first appearance in court Jan. 22 to face cocaine trafficking charges stemming from a December drug bust.
Vena was one of six people arrested on charges related to drug trafficking in December, after the Jasper RCMP, in partnership with other law enforcement agencies in the region, conducted a two-week operation targeting street-level drug dealing in Hinton and Jasper.
During Vena’s brief appearance, Judge L. E. Nemirsky granted the Jasperite more time to hire a lawyer and review the facts of his case, and ordered Vena to appear in the Jasper court again on Feb. 26 for election and plea.
Donald Roop, another Jasperite charged in relation to the drug bust, will return to court again on Feb. 12. He has yet to enter a plea.
