Council has released its strategic priorities for the next three years.

The document is available on the municipal webpage and lays out the things that have been accomplished in the past year, as well as what council hopes to achieve by 2017.

“Defining our priorities today, in pursuit of our desired future, is the key to serving our primary purpose of improving community health,” reads the document. “A unified approach, unified in goals and direction, is the way forward.”

Council’s priorities are based on the Jasper Community Sustainability Plan and range from the municipality’s fiscal health to its relationships and communications.

To find the document, visit www.jasper-alberta.com and click “Municipal News” on the righthand side. The first item is Council’s Strategic Priorities and includes a link to a PDF.

Hinton pipeline shot with rifle

A natural gas pipeline 60 kilometres north of Hinton was shot with a high power rifle sometime between Nov. 14-17.

On Nov. 17, the Hinton RCMP responded to a report of damage to a natural gas pipeline owned by Talisman Energy. The investigation shows that the pipe was intentionally shot.

According to the RCMP, a “large quantity” of natural gas escaped into the atmosphere before safety devices kicked in and stopped its escape.

The RCMP is still looking for information on the incident, and encourage anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area to call them at 780-865-2455, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-TIPS.

Folk fest AGM

It’s been a couple of months since the tents were put away and the stage was torn down and now the Jasper Heritage Folk and Blues Society is ready to start reflecting on the second annual Jasper Folk Music Festival.

The society will be hosting its annual general meeting Nov. 27 at the Jasper Legion.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend and share their input.

Following the meeting, stick around and share a pint while being serenaded by local talent during the weekly open jam night.
