Chamber hosting ambassador and business awards
The Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce is hosting its ambassador and small business awards Oct. 15 at the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre.
The annual event recognizes outstanding businesses, organizations and individuals who enhance the community.
Up for grabs this year are five business awards and five ambassador awards.
Nominees for business of the year include: Evil Dave’s Grill, Jasper Brewing Company, Kimchi House and River Trail Restaurant.
Nominees for the ambassador of the year include: Valerie Bartziokas, Nancy Best, Peter Bridge, Gordon Bye, Valerie Domaine, Marianne Garrah, Colleen Green and Erin Reade.
The event begins at 6 p.m.
Learn to curl
The Jasper Curling Club is hosting a free learn-to-curl workshop for novice curlers interested in the sport Oct. 20 to 23.
The drop-in event runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every evening at the curling rink in the Jasper Activity Centre.
The club will provide equipment and lessons and is asking curlers to bring clean, treaded shoes and wear stretchy clothing.
For those who are interested in playing in a league this winter, the men’s league starts Oct. 26 and the ladies league starts Oct. 27. The community/corporate league starts Oct. 29 and the mixed league starts Oct. 30. The junior program begins Nov. 4.

Winter sports gear swap
The Jasper Ski Team is hosting a gear swap and silent auction Oct. 17 at the Jasper Activity Centre.
People who want to drop off equipment can do so between 9:30 a.m and 11:30 a.m.
The gear swap and silent auction begins at 12:30 p.m. and runs until 2:30 p.m.
Equipment that isn’t sold can be picked up from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Admission to the event is $5 and the team asks people to only bring new or gently used equipment.
Library hosts movie matinee
The Jasper Municipal Library is hosting a movie matinee Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
Adults are encouraged to come out and watch the flick in the seniors lounge at the Jasper Activity Centre.
The event is free of charge.
