Door-to-door canvass for charity
Canvassers are knocking on doors again, collecting funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Each year a group of about 20 volunteers hits the streets throughout the month of February, to rustle up some cash for the 60-year-old charity.
Leo Arsenault is the zone leader for Jasper and has volunteered with the foundation for seven years. Last year, he and his fellow canvassers collected nearly $4,000 in donations from the community.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation invested those funds, as well as millions of dollars more, in research, in hopes of reducing the death rate from heart disease and stroke.
Six weeks ‘til Pride
With only six weeks until the sixth annual Jasper Pride Festival, the festival society has teamed up with Evil Dave’s Grill to organize a Wicked White Wine and Dine.
The event features a four-course white-themed meal, in keeping with the festival’s Wicked White Winter theme. Wine pairings will be offered along with the meal.
The limited event is Feb. 19. To reserve your spot, call Evil Dave’s: 780-852-3323.
Splitboard festival returns
Registration for the second annual Ascend Split Snowboard Festival is now open.
The two-day festival runs from March 13–15 and includes guided splitboard adventures in Jasper National Park.
The festival hopes to attract those who are new to the sport, as well as the “seasoned mountain goats” who have been touring in the backcountry for years.
