A group of teenage girls learned the ins and outs of hula-hooping thanks to a new program offered by the Jasper Municipal Library, July 4.

The hula-hoop workshop was part of a series of activities organized specifically for teenagers this summer. “Each week we do a different theme,” said Holly Llewellyn, a library employee.

“We have a reading program for younger children, but it cuts off at 12, so we wanted something for the older kids to be able to do.”

Each Saturday, until Aug. 22, excluding Aug. 1, a different activity will be held for Jasper’s youth, including a photography workshop and a bracelet making workshop.

Jasper’s own Hulagan, Shawna Woelke, instructed last week’s class.

“Any chance I have to get out there and teach people how to hoop I’m keen,” said the owner of Spiral Motion.

Teenagers interested in participating in the summer activities are encouraged to meet at the library at 11 a.m. each Saturday.
