The floors in the Robson House have been stripped, stained and polished back to their previous glory with funds raised through the Robson House Historical Society.

Work began on Nov. 28 and carried through the weekend, with two handymen taking over the boardroom and offices.

The Robson House was built in the 1920s and was originally located at 808 Giekie St. It was moved from its original home to its current location at 409 Patricia St. in 2001. At that time, the historical society, under the auspices of the Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce, was formed to oversee the movement and renovation of the historical home.

Following that move, the chamber moved into the building, using the upstairs bedrooms as offices, the former kitchen area as a reception desk and the living room as a boardroom.

The society made its last mortgage payment in 2010 and it has since focused its attention—and funds—on maintaining the building’s historical integrity.

To do that, it hosts a number of fundraisers each year, including the Robson Sister’s Halloween Dinner and the annual ice bar during the Jasper in January Street Party.

As well as refinishing the floors, the society has fundraised to have the building painted, both the interior, as well as the exterior trim.

Pattie Pavlov, manager of the chamber, said she is thrilled to see the floors refinished and she’s instituting a new “no boots in the boardroom” rule, in an effort to keep the hardwood gleaming for many years to come.
