To kick off  the 89th annual Jasper Heritage Rodeo, Aug. 12, Jasper’s littlest cowboys and girls took a lap around town on their homemade ponies.

The stick pony parade attracted dozens of cowboy-hat-sporting, plaid-shirt-wearing, yeehaw-yelling kids, as well as a few rodeo members on horseback.

The event marks the beginning of rodeo week, which runs every night from Aug. 12 to Aug. 15.

This year’s rodeo is special. After 37 years indoors, it has returned to the outdoors. The new rodeo grounds are located on the SkyTram road and have a clear view of Pyramid Mountain.

There is limited parking, so people are encouraged to use the free shuttle service that will take rodeo goers from the Patricia Street side of the information centre to the rodeo grounds.

Doors open at 4 p.m., with events beginning at 6 p.m.
