Dutch cyclist Tom-Jelte Slagter did it again, winning stage four of the Tour of Alberta and winning both mountain top finishes in Jasper National Park.
Slagter waited patiently before making his final attack with less than 500 metres to go. The strategy paid off and he crossed the finish line at the summit of Marmot Rd. with a time of 4:09:26.
With the win he now sits in third place on the overall leader board.
Close behind him was Bauke Mollema, in the yellow jersey, who finished four seconds behind Slagter. Despite finishing second, Mollema will keep his jersey as the race leader with a total time of 13:10:58 through the first four stages of the race.
American Adam Yates finished third, holding onto his second place position in the general classification category. Yates was also named the best rider under 24 for the fourth day in a row.
Forty-five seconds separates the top five riders in the race.
The fastest Canadian of the day was Michael Woods who finished 10th. He tied with Slagter as the best sprinter of the day and sits in 9th place overall.
For the third day in a row, Canada’s Benjamin Perry was also named king of the mountain.
America’s Hincapie Racing Team was named the best team of the stage.
More to come.
