On behalf of her husband, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Laureen Harper cut the ribbon on Brewster Travel Canada’s brand new Glacier Skywalk, May 13.
The controversial project, which includes a glass-floored observation deck suspended 30 metres over the Sunwapta Valley, received its finishing touches in April and opened to its first paying customers May 1.
Although already open for nearly two weeks, the structure was closed May 13 for the exclusive party, which attracted dignitaries from Jasper and Banff, as well as the provincial and federal governments.
The attraction—which has had significant opposition, both locally and nationally—was approved by Parks Canada in 2012.
