The Jasper Curling Club opened its doors to students in Grade 4 and 5 this season in order teach them about curling.
In previous years, the club taught students from Grade 6 to 12, but decided to open it up to younger students so they could get a feel for the sport. This year 20 students participated.
Head instructor Karen Huculak said she was thrilled with the turn out and commented on how fast the young players learned not only about the game, but also the rules and etiquette of curling.
Next season the club hopes to introduce league play with teams. The club is also considering hosting a junior bonspiel.
In addition to the junior curlers, 11 corporate teams faced off in a bid to capture the corporate league title, Feb. 18.
For the second year in a row, Rocky Mountain Roasters beat their arch-rivals Delnor to take home the top prize.
The game was as close as it gets. Tied after five ends of play, Rocky Mountain Roasters second—Stuart Teffer—hit and rolled under cover in the sixth to help his team capture the corporate title for the second year running.
The other businesses that put together teams include, Tourism Jasper, Decore Hotels, Mountain Park Lodges (x2), Jasper SkyTram, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Jasper House Bungalows, Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre and Marmot Basin.
