“It’s going to be fun,” said Rich Potter of the Jasper Rotary Club. “We’re hoping this might be the social event of the year.”
Attendees are encouraged to arrive wearing masks, which will add to the evening’s mystery and intrigue. Flextime, a five-piece dance band will perform throughout the night and the club is working to secure a stilt walker, maybe even a fire juggler.
In addition to the silent auction, a $20 ticket buys a chance to win a trip for two to New Orleans.
The masquerade ball is one of The Rotary Club’s many fundraisers and the branch in Jasper supports numerous local, national and international endeavours.
The club donated $60,000 to the Jasper Municipal Library expansion project, said Potter, and contributed $15,000 for playground equipment at Centennial Park. The organization also sends students on trips for leadership programs and cultural excursions.
The Rotary Club of Jasper also supports Tools for Schools, which was founded by Jill and Neil Fenton. Tools for Schools helps teachers improve their instructing methods in Kigali, Rwanda.
“They have now grown to three or four locations and we have brought our regional district and Rotary International on board with funding,” said Potter.
The masquerade ball takes place in the Beauvert Room at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $125 per person and available at Servus Credit Union, Tekarra Colour and the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
