Jasper Victim Services Unit held their charity poker tournament Nov. 23.
Since most at the fundraiser were just looking to have some fun, action was loose for most of the night, leading to some big pots and early knockouts.
After about five hours of play, Vic Vassallo took home the top honour. The big stack’s jack-deuce held up against the Fitzhugh’s own Trevor Nichols’ all-in on the first hand of heads-up play. Vassallo’s win earned him $500 in Visa gift cards.
Rosanne Burke rounded out the prizewinners, taking third place.
A few consolation prizes were also handed out, including one to Cpl. Ryan Gardiner of the RCMP for being first out of the tournament.
Tournament organizer Paul Schmidt said he was happy with the event. He explained that while it didn’t raise a ton of money for Jasper Victim Services Unit, it was a lot of fun and kept the organization on people’s minds.
