The Jasper Curling Club’s mixed bonspiel drew players from across the province to town last weekend, and for many it was their last chance to compete for the season.
Thirty-nine teams came out to the event, and on March 30 six of them competed in the A, B and C final events.
Jasper was represented by the Bergen rink in the C event, and the Robinson rink in the B event, but there were no bear trophies in the cards for the home town heroes, as both teams lost their final matches.
In the C event, the Bergen rink took its Rocky Mountain House opponents to an extra end with a clutch two points in the 8th, but a stellar first shot from the opponent skip sealed his team’s win in the 9th.
Also coming short were Jasper’s B event contenders, who fell to the Branting rink from Edmonton, following a hard-fought match.
The A event came down to the wire, with the Baumann rink’s skip landing a solid take-out through a crowded house on her final shot of the final end, taking down the Parsons rink from Edmonton.
While talent at this year’s tournament was pretty stellar, many players made special note of how much they appreciated the fantastic job done by Jasper’s revered icemaker, Wally Kortzman.
