More than 72 athletes donned helmets and running shoes for the 30th annual 2athalon Oct. 3.
Sponsored by Freewheel Cycle, the annual event started at the Miette River pullout on Highway 93 and took cyclists down Highway 93A to Athabasca Falls, before they ditched their bikes for a 10-km run.
In the solo men’s category, Sean Smith was crowned the overall winner with a time of one hour and 37 minutes.
Warren Van Asten placed second overall with a time of one hour, 38 minutes and 52 seconds and Matt Staneland placed third with an overall time of one hour, 41 minutes and 43 seconds.
In the solo women’s category, Simone Heinrich placed first overall with a time of one hour, 54 minutes and 10 seconds.
Geneva Lloyd placed second overall with a time of two hours, eight minutes and one second, while Katy Poirier placed third overall with a time of two hours, eight minutes and four seconds.
In the team category, Manu Loir-Mongazon and Marnie Oatway finished first with an overall time of one hour, 38 minutes and four seconds.
Amy Phillips and Sam LeBlanc placed second with an overall time of one hour, 40 minutes and five seconds. Natasha Lavoie and Bruno Bergeron finished third with a time of one hour, 42 minutes and one second.
In the junior category, Sebastian Golla and Lucas Oeggerli finished first overall with a time of two hours, two minutes and 17 seconds.
Myles Diddick and Ryan Davis finished second with a time of two hours, 13 minutes and six seconds and Dani and Logan Diddick finished third with an overall time of two hours, 31 minutes and 46 seconds.
Following the race, participants sat down at the Jasper Legion for an authentic Mexican dinner prepared by Coco's Cafe.
