Beneath cloudy skies the Jasper Bears Mosquito and Peewee baseball teams tore into the Provincial tournament held at the Jasper ball diamond last weekend.
With a near perfect record under the Baseball Alberta banner, (the Mosquito team is undefeated this season and the Peewee team has only given up one game in the Edson tournament), the team entered the tournament with a degree of confidence.
However, the young athletes faced formidable challenges from their opponents. The Mosquitos started out strong against the Sherwood Park Athletics, with a lopsided 18–5 victory, but a closer scoring game, saw the Mosquitos lose to the Spruce Grove Whitesocks, who triumphed with a 15–14 win.
A later game found the PeeWees meeting the Drayton Valley Giants in a 20–14 loss. The action continued with the team taking on Spruce Grove, who defeated Jasper 22–24. The Bears will head off the Spruce Grove for Round Two of the Provincials this weekend. To find out how they did visit www.baseballalberta.com
