The Jasper Grizzlies tore up the ice last weekend, as they hosted a tournament that attracted teams from around the region.
With a wealth of players enthusiastic to compete, the local girls were able to field two teams, one that made it to the A Final and another that won the C Final.
In regular play, the “A team” won both games, first against Fort Saskatchewan with a score of 6–1 and next against the Edson Selects with a score of 6–0.
The “B team” won its first game against the Grimshaw Huskies, 4–1, but lost 6–1 to the Leduc Roughnecks in its second effort.
The “B team” then went on to compete against the Edson Selects in the C Finals where the girls came out on top with a score of 3–2, while the “A team” competed in the A final and lost to the Leduc Roughnecks, who pulled out a 6–1 win.
The “A team” battled hard, though, slapping 32 shots on net and keeping the puck on Roughneck ice for the majority of the game. But, a combination of good goaltending and some early goals kept the scoresheet unbalanced.
