These days, the volume and fury that movies hurl into theatres can leave you exhausted, so why not slip into a comfy seat and relax with the Jasper Film Club’s latest offering—a funny and engaging exploration of fragmented friendships and directionlessness.

Greta Gerwig stars in Francis Ha, a film that follows a free spirit who floats through New York, trying to piece together her life in a way that makes some kind of sense.

It’s a soul-searching film; but it’s soul-searching that’s explored through cute one-liners and charming conversations rather than existential angst.

And who doesn’t love a movie set in New York? Especially New York shot in crisp black and white.

After checking out the trailer, Chris Garnham, of the film club, said he had a “good feeling” about Francis Ha, so he is delighted to bring it to Jasperites.

Garnham said after last month’s turnout, he is “pretty excited” for the upcoming season of the film club, and is sure it will be a success.

He said he is proud of the films the club is able to bring to Jasper, but loves how they become the centre of an event that’s about more than just the movie.

“The community appeal, the club aspect of what we do is really strong,” Garnham said.

Francis Ha will screen at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7 at the Chaba Theatre.
