Spontaneous ArtWalk will open doors and ideas
Artists’ Own gallery and studio owner, Marianne Garrah, dreamed up the concept late last week. The arts promoter, whose most recent conceptual project, Tuktu Prayers, helped launch Jasper National Park Centennial celebrations at the Jasper Yellowhead Museum and Archives, started making phone calls to her network of artists Friday (September 21).
“It’s a bit spontaneous. We’ll see how people respond,” Garrah said.
Describing the initiative as “an attempt at a cohesive day of viewing what our local artisans have created around town,” Garrah said the Sunday, September 30 ArtWalk will see participants pick up a guide at the Jasper Artists’ Guild (Old Fire Hall) or the Museum (400 Pyramid Lake Road). From getting one household of artists – Kat Radford’s studio at 804 Geikie Street – on board, Garrah said more people are opening their minds, and doors, to the idea.
“Sally Tatlow will open her studio in Cabin Creek and have two of her students displaying too,” Garrah said.
Other artists on display will be Anna Carnell and Gretchen Hickmott.
