Jasper will be ready to rumble when professional wrestlers from the Canadian National Wrestling Alliance come to town next weekend.

“[People are] going to see the classic good guys versus bad guys that they come to expect from professional wrestling,” said Vern May, president of wrestling operations at CNWA. “The biggest difference that people are going to see is our show is a little less talk and a lot more action.” 

Occasional snowfall didn’t seem to bother the sloughs of rugby competitors that came to town last weekend for the Jasper Downhill Sevens tournament, as many pitches outside the Park still lie dormant beneath snow.

Over a three-day weekend, yoga enthusiasts will retreat to Jasper and become Grounded in the Rockies.

This debut event happens May 3-5 and is offered in partnership with Mountain Park Lodges, River Stone Yoga Studio and Ever After Events.

The Jasper Junior/Senior High School boys rugby team is amping up for game season.

This year’s roster features a combination of experienced players and rookies. “Half of them, this is their third year [playing rugby],” said coach Marshall Corbett. “Half are brand new and never held a rugby ball before.”

Eight ambitious three-man teams set out to take part in the inaugural Atomic Waymaker ski touring challenge held at the Dachstein in Austria last weekend. 

And ultimately, one team prevailed above the rest. The United States of Canada, made up of Mark Smiley, Andrew McNab and former Jasperite Reiner Thoni, collected 4,500 euros ($6,025) and bragging rights on April 7.
