Four years ago the Whistle Stop Pub decided to come out with a bang, creating the annual Loud and Proud drag show and dance party, as a way of showing the community and its visitors that the pub is a welcoming and accepting place.
Each year, the bar is packed to the brim for the show, as “female impersonators” take the stage, performing in sequin dresses, big hair and towering high heels.
Last Saturday’s event was no different. There was hardly room for one more spectator, as the Whistlers Inn’s General Manager, Vanessa Hugie came out dressed as Vinny—a greased up T’Bird from the musical Grease—to welcome the crowd.
Vinny later became Sonny of Sonny and Cher, performing “I Got You Babe” with Jasper’s very own diva, Toni Lester Van Blam.
Filling out the list of fabulous performers was Phoenix Rising, Missy Fufu and brand new addition to the show, Felicia Bonée of Calgary.
