Jets hope to soar after rough start
Despite a bumpy launch to the season, Downstream Jets player/coach Ray Forget isn’t sweating the standings.
Posting a 3-4-1 record has them in the middle of the fastball standings, however, Forget is confident his team will regain the form that placed them in the league championship finals last season.
“We’re confident going into the last three weeks of the season,” Forget said. “ We’ve picked up some new players... That defeat in the final last year to the Hinton Scorpions is a defeat we don’t want to forget.”
“The high expectations are there. We’re looking forward to the playoffs and building up our confidence so in the playoffs we can ride like we like to ride.”
Forget saw a lot of positives from a 8-8 tie with the Hinton Barleymen recently, in which the team came back from a 7-4 deficit. Experience played a role in the come-from-behind win, Forget said, a key element they hope will lead them to success.
“We have experience from the past couple of years and with the new guys, we had a slow start but we’re looking forward to the playoffs.”
The line-up includes a balanced mix of sluggers and green-finders, Forget said, which he hopes is a proper mix for ongoing success.
Forget has been impressed with the play of Justin ‘Wags’ Wagner, a new addition to the Jets, who has been solid at shortstop and centre field.
“He’s a great addition to the team. He can play anywhere... he’s very consistent.”
Forget is a big part of that experience, having pitched for the team for the past 10 years. He joins Chad Ray as the only other pitcher on the team,
“We’re shorthanded with pitching, and that could be a weakness for us, but I’ll pick up the slack as much as I can,” Forget said. |
